Annual Reports: HMP Downview - 2004
During the past 18 months there have been many improvements to the prison facilities and the regime. As well as substantial progress on the major refurbishment of C wing, work commenced on enlarging and updating Reception and a new Works building, and the kitchens have been upgraded. Air conditioning units and drinking water fountains have been installed in the Healthcare centre and bars have been removed from the majority of cell windows on C wing.In April, with the retirement of David Lancaster, a new No 1 Governor was appointed. David Lancaster had a long and distinguish career in the Prison Service, and was instrumental in stabilising Downview after the poorly managed re-role from the male estate.
