Annual Reports: HMP Eastwood Park - 2004

Once again the prison has been subjected to inspection this time in relation tothe performance bid which was adjudicated in February 2004. It is good toreport that the bid was successful. The entire staff at the establishmentworked very hard as a unified team under the direction of the governor andhis senior management team to produce a successful outcome to the bid.The prison continues to operate safely and successfully albeit at minimumstaffing levels in many quarters. Earlier in the year, the prisoner population atEastwood Park was at maximum and this resulted in long periods of lockupdue to staff shortages resulting from bed-watches etc. As the yearprogressed, the prisoner population reduced significantly stabilising atapproximately 85% capacity. Also, the number of staff away on long-term sickleave has reduced dramatically which has helped to minimise the period ofprisoner bang-up.
