Diversity Working Group

The Diversity Working Group (DWG) was set up in 2005 and is chaired by Dencer Brown, the National Council Diversity Representative. IMB members with special interests in Diversity, the Diversity Consultant and members of the Secretariat also belong to this group.

The DWG was established to encourage IMBs to acknowledge the benefits of a diverse membership and establish a co-ordinated approach to the management of diversity amongst IMBs.

Resources are available on this page to assist with enhancing the awareness and ability of all Board members to ensure the interaction between all prisoners, detainees, staff and visitors is fair and without prejudice. Full details of the IMB 5 Year Diversity Strategy can be found by following the link below:

The following statement is a sample diversity statement which can be used and adapted by Boards for inclusion into their Annual Reports:

A Microsoft Word version of the diversity sample statement is available for downloading from the Annual Reports page.

The IMB Diversity Framework is available in two parts, and can be downloaded:

Zephyrine Barbarachild, a member of the IMB Diversity Working Group, produced a paper called "Why Monitoring Diversity is not about 'Political Correctness'". Click on this link to access the document.
